ISO 45001:2018 STANDARD AND BENEFITS
45001:2018 standard all about?
ISO 45001:2018 is an international Occupational Health and Safety Management Standard developed and maintained by the International Organisation for Standardization (ISO). This standard provides requirements for an organisation to implement an Occupational Health and Safety Management System.
An Occupational Health and Safety Management System is a set of policies, processes and procedures focused on providing safe and healthy workplaces by preventing work-related injury and ill health, as well as by proactively improving Occupational Health and Safety performance. The requirements specified in the Standard were designed to improve Occupational Health and Safety performance, eliminate hazards and minimise risks (including system deficiencies), take advantage of opportunities, and address management system non-conformities associated with its activities and fulfill legal and other requirements.
The ISO 45001:2018 standard does not state specific criteria for Occupational Health and Safety performance, nor is it prescriptive about the design of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System. The standard allows an organisation, through its Occupational Health and Safety Management System, to integrate other aspects of health and safety, such as worker wellness and wellbeing. It is important to remember that the standard does not address issues such as product safety, property damage or environmental impacts, beyond the risks to workers and other relevant interested parties.
